Flag of the World Dress Project – Reveal

I am co-hosting the Flag of the world dress project or 4th of July proud dress project with Renata from RunningNStyle (host), Akram from Akram’s Ideas and Bianca from Vintage On Tap (co-host). Don’t forget to visit their blog and look for their flag dress!

This week is Reveal Week for our flag of the World Dress Project. If you follow me on the Vlog Channel, you already know about this challenge. You also know that I was hesitant as to which pattern to use for the challenge! Click here to hear about my plan.

Well… I chose none of the expected patterns. Sounds like something you seamstresses go through when planning projects? Lol I’m sure a few of us can recognize themselves …!

Canadian Flag dress

I had to adjust my pattern choice for the Canadian Flag dress when I received this beautiful Rayon Milano White Twill Fabric from LA Finch Fabrics! This fabric is soft and it has a beautiful drape. Fabric content is 100% rayon.

I went with McCall’s 7566 to create this cute white summer dress. This dress can be worn easily throughout summer. I kept it simple by creating a all white dress and by using accessories to give the whole outfit a Canadian touch!

The fabric was pre-treated  (machine wash and air dry). I chose to steam it rather than using my iron after testing the fabric. My iron was leaving marks on it. It does fray and need to be french seamed or serged. It will also wrinkle.

I used my rolled hem foot to finish the skirt and flounce hem.

Haitian Flag outfit

My Haitian flag outfit was created using two very basic pattern. The dress is McCall’s 6886 and the cardigan is Kwik Sew 3916 . I actually made this dress in December 2016 and wore it once… It was time to pull it out. That red was perfect to represent the Haitian flag!

These fabrics are from my local Fabricville. The red fabric is a double knit and the blue fabric is a crepe knit. This outfit is perfect for spring or on cooler summer days. I chose to do separates for this look so I could easily add these pieces to my everyday wardrobe.

Both earrings are handmade by me using crochet.
