Front Zip Pencil Skirt with Britanny J Jones

Hi sewfriends!

I thought Spring was here but we got snowed in last Tuesday (15 inches of snow…)! It got to me real bad but I decided that nothing will stop me from sewing Spring related items!

Today I want to show you my new Pencil skirt. It was made using my self-drafted straight skirt pattern and Brittany J Jones Front Zip pencil Skirt tutorial. Brittany contacted me to get some feedback on her New Tutorial. After watching it, I decided to go ahead and create my own version!

The process

As mentioned above, I started with my personal straight skirt pattern. I selected a stretch denim fabric and a gold metallic separating zipper. Mine was very long so I had to cut it using the appropriate tools. If you want a tutorial on how to shorten a metallic separating zipper, let me know! In her tutorial, Brittany will guide you on how to adjust the skirt pattern to your measurements (if you are using a commercial one), how to taper the hem of your skirt (for a more fitted look), how to play with the seam allowances and how to properly install an exposed Zip at the front of your skirt. The tutorial is very complete!

How to style the skirt?

This skirt can be style so many different ways. Here, I opted to wear it with this Cold Shoulder top I made last Spring (which is very much in Trend at the moment). I used McCall’s 7412 to create this top. I plan on wear this skirt with blouses, crop tops, tank tops this spring and summer! You can wear it with flats of high heels. Do not limit yourself with this one!

What is next?

I plan on making more versions of this skirt! I bought 4 Zippers in advance so I can make these whenever I want!

If you want to rock this skirt, checkout Britt’s tutorial! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Talk to you soon!
