For my second holiday party outfit, I’m sharing my most recent McCall’s 6886. For this version, I chose to go all Glam by mixing glitter and Velvet for an office party dress.
This is another very quick make. Initially this pattern only has 3 pattern pieces (Front, back, sleeves). It is a quick serger project (if you have one) or you can use a stretch/zigzag stitch on a regular sewing machine. Make sure to also switch for ballpoint needles! I used my regular machine to sew the skirt hem.
To draft the sleeves, I started with the basic sleeve pattern piece. I drafted 5 lines (parallel to the grainline) and cut on those lines. I then spread the pieces, leaving a one inch spacing between them and taping them to a new sheet. Once I was done taping, I redrafted the top curve and voilà! If you want a tutorial, please let me know in the comments!
For the cuffs, I took an existing pattern I had in my stash (Helen’s Closet blackwood cardigan) and used the cuff pattern piece to create those cuffs. I love to keep the process quick and simple and it worked perfectly!
Overall, I’m pretty pleased with both party looks and love how quick it was to put them together! If you are like me, you probably do not have enough of 24 hours a day, especially during this time of the year! Finding easy projects to attend the different social events I have around the Holiday is definitively a life saver! Plus, I’m sure this office party dress will get lots of wear!
